National Honor Society
Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. The NHS has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and community. Chapters in more than 12,500 schools across the nation strive to give practical meaning to the Society’s goals of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student: one who excels in all these areas. The standards used for selection are:
Scholarship—To be eligible for membership consideration, Trinity students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25.
Leadership—Leadership is based on the student’s participation in two or more community or school activities, or election to an office that has led the student to demonstrate his/her leadership skills in a positive manner.
Service— To meet the service requirement, the student must have been active in service projects in the school and community.
Character— is measured in terms of integrity, behavior, ethics, and cooperation with both students and faculty.
Membership, however, is more than an honor. It incurs a responsibility and an obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities.
Students are screened by Faculty Council consisting of five members of the faculty chosen by the NHS advisor.
